CARGO BIKE STEERING MECHANISM

Context

One of my courses at howest was in collaboration with belgium design agency Raak. Raak provided a cargobike concept without any engineering for steering and tilting during cornering. Our task was to develop these systems so the bike would feel intuitive, stable, and safe to ride while preserving cargo capacity.

Opportunities

Cornering performance is crucial for cargobikes in busy urban environments. By designing and testing new steering and tilting solutions, we had the chance to improve both rider confidence and product differentiation while staying true to Raak’s design language.

Results & Learnings

We concluded the project with a scale 3D-printed model that showcased the steering and tilting mechanisms. I was responsible for the 3D printing and model building, which gave me valuable hands-on experience in turning digital concepts into physical prototypes. This project also deepened my interest in rapid prototyping as a tool for exploring and validating design decisions.
